So, what does all this mean?
Hawaii denying “rumors” about Obama’s BC?
To push back against rumors that he was not born in Hawaii, the campaign reproduced a Certificate of Live Birth from the state’s Health Department. Instead of terminating the conspiracy theories, that inspired new theories — that the certificate had been forged or that even if it hadn’t been forged it was the sort of certificate that could be given to someone born outside of the United States. But the certificate is specific about Obama’s birth in Honolulu, down to the 7:24 p.m. time.
“It’s crazy,” said Janice Okubo, director of communications for the Hawaii Department of Health. “I don’t think anything is ever going to satisfy them.”
Okubo, who said that she gets weekly questions from Obama ‘Birthers’ that are “more like threats,” explained that the certificate of live birth reproduced by Obama’s campaign should have debunked the conspiracy theories. “If you were born in Bali, for example,” Okubo explained, “you could get a certificate from the state of Hawaii saying you were in Bali. You could not get a certificate saying you were born in Honolulu. The state has to verify a fact like that for it to appear on the certificate. But it’s become very clear that it doesn’t matter what I say. The people who are questioning this bring up all these implausible scenarios. What if the physician lied? What if the state lied? It’s just become an urban legend at this point.”
What does she mean, implausible scenarios?
Welcome to my obscure little blog, Mr. Berg. I am amazed to find a comment from you asking me what I think about all this.
By “implausible scenarios” I think she means anything which might disqualify him.
This is all about a crisis of legitimacy.
Never before have we had a President so disconnected from the main stream (and the main land) of The American Experience. He remains a mystery, with more sealed records than any of his predecessors. He was not vetted. The Media in America usually dig up everything there is to know about a Presidential candidate before an election. Not this time.
How’d that turtle get up on that fence post, anyway?
It is entirely possible that he was indeed born in Honolulu. Perhaps he and/or his handlers choose not to produce the long form hard copy Birth Certificate until a time selected by themselves to do maximum damage to his opponents.
Tagging those who question his eligibility to hold the office as “Birthers” is weaponized ridicule. Demonizing all who oppose him as paranoid racist-sexist-homophobes unworthy of serious consideration would be highly effective psycho-political warfare. Legitimacy Deniers are in for the same treatment as Climate Change Deniers.
It is also entirely possible that he was born in Kenya just like his grandmother and the Kenyan Ambassador claim, in which case everybody whose job it was to check his eligibilty will do their best to impugn the credibility of anyone daring to “prove” it. His minions won’t believe whatever “proof” is presented, no matter how convincing it may be to those who did not drink the Kool Aid. There would be race riots and civil war over his removal.
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court swore him in. That settles it for most people, for now. The trouble with denying the legitimacy of the President is that it leads to denying the legitimacy of everybody who was entrusted with making sure this never happened.
Thank you, sir, for your comment, and thank you for your service to our country. You are a brave man, sir.
